CAMI Artist Tan Dun Wins Academy Award,Starts Tour of Classical Multimedia Concerts, Including "Crouching Tiger Concerto"

Columbia Artists Management Inc. (CAMI) proudly announces that on March 25, 2001, at the 73rd Annual Academy Awards, the internationally acclaimed classical composer/conductor Tan Dun won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for Ang Lee's romantic martial arts epic, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Tan's score has also won prizes from the British Film Academy, the Chicago Film Critics, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the Flanders International Film Festival. For the past nine weeks, the "Crouching Tiger" soundtrack (Sony Classical) has topped the BILLBOARD MAGAZINE'S national charts for Top Classical Crossover Album

"My music is to dream with out boundaries," Tan said in his acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. "Tonight with you, I see boundaries being crossed. As a classical music composer, I'm thrilled to be honored here. 'Crouching Tiger' bridged East and West, romance and action, high and low cultures."

Tan's music is performed throughout the world by leading orchestras and ensembles today. His recent and upcoming conducting engagements include concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestra Philharmonique de Radio France, NHK Symphony Orchestra of Japan, Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Tan's upcoming compositions included new commissions from the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Suntory Hall, and Metropolitan Opera.

His next project for 2001/2002 is a multimedia, classical concert tour of the"Crouching Tiger Concerto," led by Tan himself. This attraction is being toured by CAMI in cities worldwide, including Beijing, Montreal, New York, Paris, London, Stockholm, Taipei, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.
