Mariinsky Orchestra returns to Carnegie Hall
“[Gergiev’s] refusal to indulge any inauthentic sentiment paid off in the work’s last bars as that arrow came to earth in the triumphant C-major key of the beginning, bringing quick tears and tight throats to many.”

Hailed as marvelous by the Los Angeles Times, the
Mariinsky Orchestra and their GRAMMY® Award-winning Music Director, Valery Gergiev, bring Tchaikovsky’s enchanting ballet score The Nutcracker to the Carnegie Hall concert stage in a full evening performance. Enjoy this iconic work of Russian ballet on Wednesday, October 31st listening to the widely known melodies of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Waltz of the Flowers, and the Trepak Russian Dances.

On Thursday, November 1st, the Mariinsky Orchestra will be performing an evening of symphonic, large-scale powerhouse works opening with Brahms’s majestic Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major alongside world renowned Brazilian pianist, Nelson Freire. Closing the evening the orchestra will perform the heroic tone poem Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40 by Richard Strauss.

“Freire offers a gentle reminder that decorous piano playing and interpretive depth have an irresistible power all their own.”
